What Are Fire Rated Insulated Glass Units?

Fire Rated Insulated Glass Units (IGUs) combine the energy efficiency of insulated glazing with the critical life-safety protection of fire-rated glass. These units are designed to withstand extreme heat, contain flames and smoke, and meet stringent building code requirements — all while offering thermal insulation, optional privacy, radiation shielding, and even bullet resistance.

At Lead Glass Pro, we specialize in custom FireLite® IGUs, using fire-rated, wire-free ceramic glass combined with a secondary pane tailored to your project needs. Our units are tested, certified, and built for performance in fire-rated walls, doors, and partitions.

FireLite IGU Specifications

• Standard Thickness: 1" overall (varies by configuration)

• Available Fire Ratings: 20, 45, 60, 90, 120, 180 minutes

• Maximum Sizes:

  • 90-minute walls: Up to 2,627 in² (max height/width: 56.5")

  • 45/60-minute walls: Up to 3,325 in²

  • 180-minute doors: 100 in² max exposed glass area

• Labeling: Permanently marked with fire rating and safety compliance

• Meets or Exceeds: UL 10C, UL 9, UBC 7-2/7-4, NFPA 80/252/257, CAN4, CSFM, and more

• Approved In: NYC (MEA 290-90-M-6) and Los Angeles (LARR 25798)

Combine radiation shielding and fire protection in one certified glass unit. Our lead-lined fire rated IGUs are available with:
