Lead Door Lite Kits for X-Ray Rooms
Complete with lead glass, lead lined vision frame, and fasteners

Protecting You from Harmful Radiation

Radiation poses a serious threat to our health. X-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation, just like visible light, radio waves, and microwaves. But unlike other types of radiation, x-rays can penetrate our bodies, causing long-term damage to our cells and DNA. That's why it's so important to have proper shielding in place when working with x-rays. Lead is the best material for blocking x-rays, which is why you'll find lead lined doors and lead backed drywall installed in most complaint x-ray rooms. If you need to have visibility through your lead lined door, a lead door lite kit (also called an x-ray vision lite kit) will ensure that you have a window in your lead lined door that also provides radiation shielding.

Why is X-ray Radiation Dangerous?

Electromagnetic radiation is made up of oscillating electric and magnetic fields. The strength of the fields determines the type of radiation: the stronger the fields, the more energetic the radiation. X-rays have the strongest fields of all EM radiation, which is why they are so dangerous. It is, therefore, essential to protect yourself from x-ray radiation exposure by using lead shielding. Extended exposure, even to small amounts of radiation, can lead to serious health problems, including cancer.

Why is Lead an Effective form of Radiation Shielding?

Lead is an extremely dense metal, which makes it exceptionally effective at blocking x-ray radiation. In fact, lead is so effective that even a thin sheet of it can provide significant protection from x-rays. Lead works to attenuate radiation due to its high density and high atomic number. This means that lead reduces the intensity of radiation by scattering and absorbing it. You will need to check with your local health official or radiation physicist to determine the required lead shielding for your room. Lead is also recyclable, which means that it is perfectly suited to those who are conscious of making sustainable choices for their x-ray room shielding.

What is a Lead Door Lite Kit?

Proper lead shielding is essential for any x-ray room, and our Lead Door Lite Kits have everything you need to get the job done right. For medical professionals who want the best possible protection for themselves and their patients, our Lead Door Lite Kits provide an added layer of security, complete with leaded glass and a lead a lined vision frame. The lead lined vision frame secures a piece of protective lead glass into a lead lined door so that you can see into the x-ray room while remaining protected from harmful radiation. Each lead door lite kit includes a lead lined vision frame, x-ray safety lead glass, and fasteners. The lead glass provides excellent shielding against radiation while allowing optimal visibility and the lead lined vision frame ensures a snug and secure fit. These kits also come with all the necessary fasteners, making installation quick and easy.

What is Lead Glass?

Lead glass is a specialized type of glass that contains a high percentage of lead. It is used in a variety of applications where radiation shielding is required, such as x-ray rooms. Lead glass provides an excellent barrier to x-rays, making it the perfect material for our Lead Door Lite Kits. Radiation shielding lead glass is made by adding lead oxide to the glass during the manufacturing process. The lead oxide gives the glass a yellow tint and makes it denser and heavier than regular glass.

Why is a Lead Lined Vision Frame Required?

A lead lined vision frame is required for our Lead Door Lite Kits because it provides a secure way to mount the lead glass in the door. The lead glass protects you from x-rays, while the lead lined frame ensures that the glass stays securely in place. Our Lead Door Lite Kits come with everything you need to install a compliant lead door, including the lead glass, a lead lined vision frame and the fasteners required to secure the glass in the door. Once you've chosen a lead lined door, you can then select the lead door lite kit that best suits your needs.

Lead Glass Pro's Lead Door Lite Kit Lead Equivalency

Lead equivalency is the measurement of how much lead (in mm) is required to reduce the amount of radiation passing through the material to the same level as if there was no lead present. For our standard lead door lite kit, the lead equivalency for all x-ray safety lead glass and lead lined vision frames is 2mm lead equivalency based @ 150kvp. While this is the most common lead equivalency for general x-ray rooms such as doctors, dentist, chiropractors, and medical centers; you will still need to check with your local health official or radiation physicist to determine the required lead shielding for your x-ray room.
