We can provide lead frames with x-ray glass for your project-specific requirements. Select from over 40 different standard sizes or request a quote for custom sizes or lead thicknesses.

Our 2-piece window frame is internally lead lined to prevent exposed lead. The telescopic window frame can adjust to fit 4-1/4" to 8" thick walls.

All the x-ray lead glass and window frames listed here meet 2mm lead equivalency based @ 150kvp. The glass is factory set into our radiation shielded window frames. While this is the most common lead equivalency for general X-Ray rooms used by doctors, dentists, chiropractors, and medical centers; you will still need to check with your local health official or radiation physicist to determine the required lead shielding for your room.

Lead Windows and Lead Lined Frames

Protecting You Against Radiation

Radiation shielding lead glass is installed in x-ray room windows to help protect against radiation exposure while allowing optimal visibility into the room while procedures are being performed. This is vital to ensure that medical personnel are kept safe from harmful radiation. Lead glass is also used in other applications where radiation is present, such as in nuclear medicine. In these cases, lead glass is used to shield against gamma rays, which are even more penetrating than x-rays. Lead lined frames are also an essential component of radiation shielding, as they help to ensure that the lead glass is firmly mounted in place and that no radiation is passing through the frame.

Why Protection from Radiation is Important

Of course, we all know that too much exposure to radiation can be dangerous. But what many people don’t realize is that even small amounts of radiation exposure can add up over time and lead to health problems. That’s why it’s so important to make sure that you are protected from radiation with lead glass and lead lined frames whenever you are in a situation where there is a potential for exposure. X-rays produce ionizing radiation, which can damage cells in your body and lead to a wide range of serious health problems.

How Do Lead Windows Protect Against Radiation?

Lead glass is an excellent material for radiation shielding because it is dense and absorbs a high percentage of radiation that passes through it. The lead in the glass helps to block x-rays and other types of ionizing radiation. The electrons in lead atoms are very tightly bound, which makes it difficult for x-rays to penetrate the material. When x-rays do pass through lead glass, they are scattered and absorbed, which reduces the amount of radiation that is able to reach you.

Frame Material

Our frames are a two-piece telescoping frame, made from 16 gauge galvanealled steel and come with a primer finish, ready to paint. Extruded aluminum frames cannot be properly lead lined

How is Lead Glass for an X-Ray Window Made?

Leaded glass is made by adding lead oxide to molten glass, which gives it its characteristic heavy weight and high density. This makes it an ideal material for radiation shielding, as it is able to block a large amount of radiation. Lead glass x-ray windows are typically much thicker than regular glass windows, as they need to be able to block a higher level of radiation.

How Much Protection Does Lead Glass Provide?

The amount of protection provided by lead glass varies depending on the type of glass and the thickness of the material. At the correct lead equivalency for your projects requirements, lead glass is able to block all the radiation, based on the thickness and density of the glass. The lead works to attenuate, or reduce, the amount of radiation that is able to pass through the x-ray window. Lead is a dense metal that absorbs X-rays and other forms of radiation, so lead lined frames can help to block the radiation that would easily pass through a regular window.

How to Choose Lead Windows and Lead Lined Frames

There are a few things to consider when choosing radiation shielding lead lined window frames for an x-ray room. The type of radiation exposure, the frequency of exposure, and the distance from the source of radiation are all important factors to consider.

Lead Equivalency

Lead equivalency is a measure of how effective a material is at attenuating, or reducing, x-rays. The higher the lead equivalency, the more protective the material is. You will need to check with your local health official or radiation physicist to determine the required lead shielding for your room. Glass layering can increase lead equivalency, and the provider you choose should be able to offer a range of lead equivalencies for your lead window.

Size of Your Lead Window

The next thing to consider is the size of the lead glass window. Lead windows come in a variety of sizes, so you will need to make sure that you choose a size that is appropriate for your needs. The last thing you want is to have a window that is too large, doesn’t provide adequate protection, or one that is too small and obstructs your view.

Different Lead Lined Frames

There are a number of different custom frame options that you might consider. For example, 45-degree splayed lead lined frames allow for a wider field of view, which can be important in specific medical procedures. Telescopic view lead lined frames can be helpful if you need a quick installation in a finished wall. Vertical center mullions are suitable for extremely wide windows and vertical lead shielded T-joints can be used to reduced any obstructions.

Other Custom Considerations for Your Lead Windows

You might also need to consider other custom options for your lead glass windows. We also offer impact-resistant x-ray safety glass windows to help protect them from damage. Slated lead glass can also be an option for rooms that have high surface reflection. Bottom voice passage baffle will allow for enhanced communication between medical personnel and the individual in the x-ray room.

Lead Glass Pro windows can be installed in 10 minutes!

Unlike other lead glass providers, our lead windows are fitted after the drywall is hung. This allows precise measurements and ensure that your leaded window will fit perfectly into your space. We provide detailed instructions on the installation of your lead window and lead lined frames according to industry best practices. Our expertise and years of hands-on experience has allowed us the to design a lead window that can be installed by anyone in just 10 minutes, avoiding unnecessary disruption to your business.

Maintaining Your Lead Glass Windows

It is important to maintain your lead glass windows to ensure that they continue to provide adequate protection against radiation. You should have your lead windows checked regularly by a qualified professional to make sure that they are in good condition. You should also take care to avoid damage to the lead glass, as this can reduce its effectiveness. Adding an impact resistant film to your x-ray window, as well as regular cleaning and maintenance, can help to extend the life of your window and keep it looking good for years to come.
